Haley Nolan Sets 50 Backstroke Mark in 109-78 Win over Gordon

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior Haley Nolan (Lowell, Mass.) set the school record in the 50 backstroke to highlight the BSU women's swimming & diving team's 109-78 victory over Gordon College on Saturday afternoon at the Dr. Mary Jo Moriarty Pool.

Nolan posted a time of 29.29 seconds in the backstroke during the opening leg of the 200 medley relay as she eclipsed Lindsay Devereaux's previous program mark of 29.35 seconds set in 2006.

The Bears' 200 medley relay squad featuring Nolan, sophomore Adi Tobias (North Attleboro, Mass.), senior Abbie Grant (Mansfield, Mass.) and junior Danielle Souza (Mansfield, Mass.) won the meet opening event with a time of 2:00.16.

Nolan also captured top honors in the both the 50 freestyle (26.23) and 50 backstroke (29.41) events, while Grant added a win in the 100 individual medley (1:08.77).

Sophomore Mackenzie Coogan (Assonet, Mass.) picked up a pair of victories as she was the first to touch the wall in the 200 freestyle (2:07.02) and the 100 freestyle (58.42) events.

Junior Kate Karl-Morin (Salem, Mass.) won the one-meter diving with a score of 146.00 points.

Bridgewater State exhibitioned the final two events as senior Katie Rogier (Hanover, Mass.) posted the top time in the 50 breaststroke (36.90), while the foursome of Nolan, Grant, Coogan and Souza recorded the top time in the 200 freestyle relay (1:45.80).

The Bears (3-5) are off until Saturday, December 2nd when they host the BSU Invitational.
