Women's Soccer Falls to Roger Williams, 1-0

BRISTOL, R.I. -- The Roger Williams University women's soccer team blanked visiting Bridgewater State University, 1-0, on Wednesday night at Bayside Field.

The host Hawks improve to 7-6 on the season, while the Bears fall to 4-5.

The only scoring of the contest came on an own goal with 1:35 remaining in the first half. Roger Williams grad student Arianna Delli Carpini (Bedford Hill, N.Y.) sent a cross into the six that was deflected into the net by a BSU defender.

The Hawks held a 19-9 shot advantage for the game as well as a 6-1 edge in corner kick attempts.

RWU sophomore goalkeeper Morgan Strassburg (Longmeadow, Mass.) made five saves to record her fifth win of the season and third shutout. Senior netminder Kellie Souza (Wilmington, Mass.) turned aside five shots in the setback for Bridgewater State.

Senior forward Alana Vincent (Taunton, Mass.) recorded six of the Bears' nine shots with four on frame.

In upcoming action, the Bears travel to Mass. Maritime Academy on Friday night for a seven o'clock MASCAC game with the Buccaneers. The Hawks head to Commonwealth Coast Conference rival Salve Regina University on Saturday afternoon to take on the Seahawks at three.
