SALEM, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's soccer team received goals from four different players as the Bears erased a one-goal deficit at halftime to defeat Salem State  University, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.

The visiting Bears improve to 2-2-1 on the season and 1-0 in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC), while the Vikings fall to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play. The game marked the MASCAC opener for both teams.

Salem State opened up the scoring in the third minute as Katie Brown (Milford, Mass.) split through the Bridgewater State defenders to put the Vikings up by one goal. Six minutes later, Emma Sanders (Seekonk, Mass.) narrowly missed tying the game as her shot hit off the crossbar.

Bridgewater State had seven corners in the first half and dominated possession late, but couldn't convert the opportunities into goals as they trailed at halftime 1-0.

The Bears continued to test Salem State's defense, scoring three more times to win going away. A corner taken by Sanders delivered to Nicole Simas (Dartmouth, Mass.) for a diving header put the Bears ahead 2-1. Taylor Loyd (Halifax, Mass.) then assisted Amelia Burke (Plymouth, Mass.) off a corner in the 79th minute to extend the lead to two goals.

In the 82nd minute, the Bears' Kellsie Mitchell (Bristol, R.I.) took advantage of a misplay by the Vikings' defense to score Bridgewater State's fourth goal of the game.

The goals for Simas and Mitchell marked their first of the 2018 campaign.

Both goalkeepers, Amanda Backe (Danvers, Mass.) for Salem State and the Bears' Kellie Souza (Wilmington, Mass.) had two saves for the game. Bridgewater State had a total of 15 shots to just five for the Vikings. The Bears also held a 12-3 edge in corner kick attempts.
