Serratore Leads Lacrosse to 23-12 Win Over Salve

NEWPORT, R.I. -- Senior midfielder Lauryn Serratore (Norwood, MA) scored five goals to lead a balanced Bridgewater State College offense to a 23-12 non-conference win over Salve Regina University in women's lacrosse action Thursday.

The game was competitive midway through the first half, as Salve Regina (2-4) got a goal from freshman attack Cedar Niles (Shaftsbury, VT) to make it 7-4 with 12:36 left before the break. Bridgewater State (3-2) closed out the half with a 10-2 run to make it a 17-6 halftime lead. Freshman attack Courtney Lennon (Medfield, MA) had three goals and one assist during the scoring run for the Bears.

In addition to Serratore's scoring, Lennon, Shannon Manning (SO/M/Framingham, MA), Katie DeMaio (SO/A/Port Jefferson Station, NY), and Alison Gugliotta (SR/M/Norwood, MA) each had four goals for Bridgewater State. Freshman Jenny Jones (A/Framingham, MA) added two goals and one assist.

Salve Regina scored the first three goals of the second half to cut the deficit to 17-9 with 26:53 to go, but that was as close as the Seahawks got. Junior Brittany Marino (A/Mt. Sinai, NY) led the Seahawks with six goals, while sophomore Sarah Baker (A/Summit, NJ) added four goals.

Both teams play again on Saturday, March 29. Salve Regina returns to conference play when it travels to Colby-Sawyer College (1 p.m.), while Bridgewater State plays at Castleton State College.
