MILTON, Mass. -- The visiting Bridgewater State University softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader with Curry College on Thursday afternoon at D. Forbes Will Field.

The Bears won the first game in five innings, 10-2, due to the eight-run mercy rule, and completed the sweep with a 4-1 victory in the night cap.

Game One

Freshman Megan Sharon (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and sophomore Alexandra Ruprecht (Kingston, Mass.) both homered for Bridgewater State in the 10-2 game one triumph, while freshman Kelley Reichert (Milford, Mass.) earned the complete game win in the circle.

Sharon went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI, while Ruprecht went 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored and three batted in. The duo connected for solo home runs during the Bears' five-run fourth inning. They both also knocked in runs in the second, Sharon with a base hit and Ruprecht with a sacrifice fly. Ruprecht added an RBI single in a three-run first inning.

Reichert (3-5) allowed two runs on five hits over five innings with a pair of walks and four strikeouts.

Juniors Meghan Navarro (Taunton, Mass.) and Samantha Mulcahy (Taunton, Mass.) also recorded multiple hits for the Bears. Navarro doubled, singled and score a run in three at bats, while Mulcahy went 2-for-4 with a run.

Sophomore Carrigan Costello (Wolcott, Conn.) was tagged with the loss in the circle for Curry. Costello (5-8) lasted all five innings and gave up ten runs (six earned) on 11 hits with two walks and a strikeout.

Game Two

Junior Natalie Sorrenti (Bridgewater, Mass.) tossed a complete game victory to lead the Bears to the 4-1 win in game two and a sweep of the twinbill.

Sorrenti (5-5) scattered four hits, did not issue a walk and fanned three.

Bridgewater got on the board with a run in the top of the second. Back-to-back base hits by senior Jenny Heller (Taunton, Mass.) and Navarro put runners on first and third with nobody out. Ruprecht followed with a bunt single to plate Heller and give the visitors the early 1-0 lead.

The Bears tacked on three more runs in the fifth on Mulcahy's two-run double and Sharon's RBI single.

Heller went 2-for-3 with a run scored in game two.

Sophomore Taylor Newcomb (Millville, Mass.) suffered the loss for the Colonels, going the distance. Newcomb (3-4) allowed four runs on eight hits while striking out one and walking three.

Both teams are back in action on Saturday afternoon at one with conference doubleheaders. The Bears (10-15) host Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Fitchburg State University, while the Colonels (10-17) entertain Commonwealth Coast Conference rival Roger Williams University.

Notes: Sharon has now reached safely in 13 straight games. She has 15 hits and seven walks during that stretch.
