BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University sophomore DeAndre Thomas has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) GEICO Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week. GEICO is a proud sponsor of the MASCAC weekly awards program.

A native of Montgomery, New Jersey, Thomas captured the meet title in the 200-meter dash with a career-best time of 22.68 seconds this past weekend at the 12th Annual Eastern Invitational hosted by Eastern Connecticut State University. He also finished fourth in the 100-meter dash with a career-best time of 11.22 seconds, and qualified for the Division III New England Championships in both events.

Thomas currently ranks sixth among Division III New England student-athletes in the triple jump, 30th in the 200-meter dash, and 34th in the 100-meter dash.

This past January, Thomas earned MASCAC Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week honors for his performance in the triple jump and long jump at the Branwen Smith-King Invitational hosted by Tufts University.

Next weekend, qualifying members of the BSU men's outdoor track & field team will compete at the MASCAC Championships hosted by Fitchburg State University.
