Jacob DeAndrade Named MASCAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Rookie of The Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the fifth time this season, Bridgewater State University freshman Jacob DeAndrade has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) GEICO Men's Outdoor Track & Field Rookie of the Week. GEICO is the proud sponsor of the MASCAC Weekly awards program.

DeAndrade captured top honors in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.15 seconds this past weekend at the MASCAC/New England Alliance Championships hosted by Fitchburg State University. The Taunton, Massachusetts product also added a third-place showing in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.57 seconds, and ran a leg on the Bears’ 4x100-meter relay squad which placed second at the meet (43.24).

With the help of DeAndrade, the Bears won the MASCAC outdoor title for the second straight year and fifth time in program history. The Bears also captured the Alliance championship for the second straight season and fifth time in the last seven years.

DeAndrade currently ranks 11th among Division III New England student-athletes in the 200 and 14th in the 100.

During the winter indoor season, DeAndrade was named the MASCAC Track & Field Rookie of the Week an impressive seven times and ran a leg on the Bears' conference champion 4x400-meter relay squad. He also garnered Division III All-England accolades in both the 200 and 60-meter dash, and was an All-NEICAAA selection in the 60.

Next weekend, qualifying members of the BSU men's outdoor track & field team will compete at the Division III New England Championships hosted by Williams College.
