BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the fourth straight week, Bridgewater State University freshman Jacob DeAndrade has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) GEICO Men's Outdoor Track & Field Rookie of the Week. GEICO is the proud sponsor of the MASCAC Weekly awards program.
DeAndrade captured top honors in the 100-meter dash this past weekend at the Westfield State Jerry Gravel Classic as he posted a season-best time of 10.99 seconds. The Taunton, Massachusetts product also added a third-place showing in the 200-meter dash with a season-best time of 22.01 seconds, and ran a leg on the Bears’ 4x100-meter relay squad which placed second at the meet (43.33).
DeAndrade currently ranks fifth among Division III New England student-athletes in the 200 and seventh in the 100. He is also 48th in all of Division III in the 200.
During the winter indoor season, DeAndrade was named the MASCAC Track & Field Rookie of the Week an impressive seven times and ran a leg on the Bears' conference champion 4x400-meter relay squad. He also garnered Division III All-England accolades in both the 200 and 60-meter dash, and was an All-NEICAAA selection in the 60.
The BSU men's track & field team will compete on Friday at the 12th Annual Eastern Invitational hosted by Eastern Connecticut State University.
