Men's Track & Field Competes at 12th Annual Eastern Invitational

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. -- The Bridgewater State University men's outdoor track & field competed on Friday afternoon at the 12th Annual Eastern Invitational hosted by Eastern Connecticut State University.

The Bears finished second in the team standings with 176.5 points. Hosted Eastern won the meet with 182 points, while Nichols College rounded out the top three teams with 103.5 points.

Junior Nick Johnson (Marstons Mills, Mass.) captured top honors in both the hammer throw and the discus throw. Johnson threw the hammer 141 feet, seven inches (43.13m), and tossed the discus 143 feet, two inches (43.65m).

Sophomore Joshua Moore (Cape May, N.J.) and junior Ryan Bain (Tewksbury, Mass.) finished one-two in the javelin. Moore recorded a mark of 196 feet, three inches (59.82m), while Bain checked in at 194 feet, seven inches (59.32m).

Sophomore DeAndre Thomas (Montgomery, N.J.) and senior Josh Quinnie (Attleboro, Mass.) also won individual events for the Bears. Thomas placed first in the 200-meter dash with a career-best time of 22.68 seconds. Quinnie posted a season-best time of 15.43 seconds to win the 110-meter hurdles.

Thomas qualified for the Division III New England Championships in both the 200-meter dash and the 100-meter dash. He finished fourth in the 100 with a career-best time of 11.22 seconds.

Juniors Lamont Haynes (Boston, Mass.), Joshua Higgins (Fitchburg, Mass.) and Olivier Ndikumana (Amherst, Mass.), and sophomore John Lara (South Boston, Mass.) had the top 4x400-meter relay performance as the foursome notched a time of 3:24.60.

Haynes, Higgins and Ndikumana also added second-place finishes. Haynes in the 200-meter dash (22.70), Higgins in the 400-meter dash (53.29) and Ndikumana in the high jump (5'10.75"/1.80m).

Freshman Kyle Koehler (Swansea, Mass.) finished second to Quinnie in the 110-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 16.18 seconds. Koehler qualified for DIII New Englands in the event.

The Bears will complete at the MASCAC Championships hosted by Fitchburg State University on Saturday, April 27th.
