DeAndrade, Haynes, Johnson Lead Men’s Track & Field at Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational

FITCHBURG, Mass. – Freshman Jacob DeAndrade (Taunton, Mass.) and juniors Lamont Haynes (Boston, Mass.) and Nick Johnson (Marstons Mills, Mass.) each won individual events to lead the Bridgewater State University men's outdoor track & field team on Saturday at the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational hosted by Fitchburg State University.

The Bears captured the team title at the meet 164 points as they easily outdistanced the field. The University of New Haven finished second with 87 points.

DeAndrade captured top honors in both the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. He posted a time of 11.29 seconds in the 100 and a season-best time of 22.66 seconds in the 200.

Johnson won the discus with a toss of 145 feet (44.21m), while Haynes placed first in the 400-meter dash with a season-best time of 49.51 seconds.

Haynes also ran a leg on the Bears' 4x400-meter relay squad along with classmates Joshua Higgins (Fitchburg, Mass.) and Olivier Ndikumana (Amherst, Mass.), and sophomore John Lara (South Boston, Mass.). The foursome placed first in the event with a time of 3:22.30.

Higgins, Ndikumana, fellow juniors Ryan Bain (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Trevor Wysong (Taunton, Mass.), senior Josh Quinnie (Attleboro, Mass.) and sophomore Joshua Moore (Cape May, N.J.) each added second place performances for the Bears. Higgins posted a time of 49.59 seconds in the 400, while Ndikumana recorded a mark of 42 feet, eight inches (13.00m) in the triple jump and Bain threw the javelin a season-best 190 feet, eight inches (58.11m). Wysong crossed the 5,000-meter run finish line in a time of 15:33.46, while Quinnie completed the 110-meter hurdles in 15.71 seconds and Moore jumped 21 feet, ten inches (6.65m) in the long jump.

The Bears' 4x100-meter relay squad featuring senior Alex Goss (North Dighton, Mass.), juniors Kondwani Moya (Lilungwe, Malawi) and Troy Turner (Boston, Mass.), and freshman Jadin Bruneau (Taunton, Mass.) placed third in the event with a time of 44.48 seconds.

Bain currently ranks 15th in all of Division III in the javelin, while the 4x400 team is 28th overall.

Several members of the BSU men's outdoor track & field team will compete next Friday at the Silfen Invitational hosted by Connecticut College. The Bears will also compete next Saturday at the Jerry Gravel Classic hosted by Westfield State University. Senior Jamie Carlson (Jericho, Vt.) will compete in the decathlon next Thursday and Friday at the Northeast Combined Events Challenge hosted by Southern Connecticut State University.
