Haynes Lead BSU Men’s Track & Field at NEICAAA Championships

ROXBURY, Mass. -- Junior Lamont Haynes (Boston, Mass.) advanced to the finals of the 400-meter dash to lead the Bridgewater State University men's indoor track & field team on Friday afternoon at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Championships held at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Haynes finished eighth in the preliminaries of the 400 with a season and career indoor-best time of 49.78 seconds. He will compete in the finals on Saturday afternoon at roughly 12:55.

Junior Nick Johnson (Marstons Mill, Mass.) placed 12th in the weight throw with a toss of 52 feet, 7.25 inches (16.03m), while sophomore Joshua Moore (Cape May, N.J.) placed 15th in the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 10.75 inches (6.67m).

Freshman Jacob DeAndrade (Taunton, Mass.), junior Joshua Higgins (Fitchburg, Mass.) and sophomore Nikolas Beshere (Winthrop, Mass.) also competed for the Bears on Friday. DeAndrade finished 20th in the 60-meter dash (7.14), while Higgins finished 23rd in the 800-meter run (2:02.27). Beshere was the 25th runner to cross the line in the 5,000-meter run (15:58.10).

The two-day championship meet continues on Saturday. Senior Joseph Keough (Walpole, Mass.) will be competing in the 3,000-meter run as well as Haynes in the finals of the 400.
