Men's Track & Field Competes at Branwen Smith-King Invitational

MEDFORD, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University men's indoor track & field team competed at the Branwen Smith-King Invitational hosted by Tufts University on Saturday at the Gantcher Center.

Freshman Jacob DeAndrade (Taunton, Mass.) captured top honors in the 200-meter dash with a career-best time of 23.04 seconds. DeAndrade also placed third in the 60-meter dash with a finals time of 7.12 seconds.

The Bears' relay squad featuring DeAndrade, juniors Lamont Haynes (Boston, Mass.) and Olivier Ndikumana (Amherst, Mass.), and sophomore John Lara (South Boston, Mass.) placed first in the 4x400-meter relay with a season-best time of 3:27.00.

Sophomore DeAndre Thomas (Montgomery, N.J.) won the meet title in the triple jump with a leap 45 feet, 6.5 inches (13.88m). He also finished ninth in the long jump with a mark of 20 feet, seven inches (6.27m). Thomas was competing in both the triple jump and the long jump for the first time this season. He qualified for both the Division III New England Championships and the NEICAAA Championships in the triple jump.

Haynes and Lara placed fifth and seventh, respectively, in the 400-meter dash. Haynes posted a time of 51.73 seconds, while Lara checked in at 52.30 seconds.

Junior Nick Johnson (Marstons Mills, Mass.) finished fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 52 feet, 6.5 inches (16.01m), while freshman Matthew Cronin (Weymouth, Mass.) placed ninth in the shot put with a distance of 43 feet, 11.75 inches (13.40m).

Bridgewater State finished fifth in the team standings with 53 points.

Next weekend, the Bears will compete at the NEICAAA Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center.
