Men's Tennis Downs Suffolk, 7-2

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's tennis team posted a 7-2 victory over visiting Suffolk University on Thursday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The Bears improve to 2-3 on the season, while the visiting Rams fall to 1-6.

Bridgewater State captured two of the three doubles matches and five of the six singles flights to secure the non-conference win.

In double play, sophomore William Jones (Wrexham, U.K.) and senior Alexander Belinsky (Norton, Mass.) teamed up for an 8-5 decision at the top spot for the Bears, while junior Joshua Bean (Kingston, Mass.) and freshman Kendan DeBlois (Hadley, N.Y.) recorded an 8-2 triumph at number three. Sophomore Nick Vaillancourt (Hingham, Mass.) and freshman Davis Altimonte (Pembroke, Mass.) got the Rams on the board with an 8-6 victory at the second flight.

DeBlois opened singles play scoring with a 6-0, 6-1 straight set win at number five. Belinsky then wrapped up his sixth flight match with a 6-2, 6-1 straight set victory. Jones secured the fifth and deciding point for the Bears with a 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 decision in the top flight singles match.

Vaillancourt picked up the Rams' lone singles point with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 triumph at the second spot.

Bean and freshman Colin Lamusta (Lynnfield, Mass.) rounded out the scoring with a pair of three-set wins for the Bears. Bean battled back from a set down to register a 1-6, 6-4, 7-5 decision at number four, while Lamusta recorded a 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 win at the third flight.

Both teams are back in action on Saturday afternoon at one. The Bears travel to Western Connecticut State University for a Little East Conference (LEC) affair with the Colonials, while the Rams head to Eastern Nazarene College to take on the Lions in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match.

Notes: DeBlois remains unbeaten in singles play on the season as he improves to 5-0….Jones picked up his first collegiate singles victory in a BSU uniform….Belinsky notched his first singles win of the season....The Bears have already surpassed their total win total from a year ago.
