Men's Swimming & Diving Cruises to 204-71 Win over Regis

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's swimming & diving team opened dual meet competition with a 204-71 victory over visiting Regis College on Saturday afternoon the Moriarty Pool.

The Bears (1-0) picked up first-place points in 14 out of 16 events.

Junior Giulian Santos (Framingham, Mass.) paced Bridgewater State with three individual event wins. Santos captured top honors in the 200 freestyle (1:56.08), 100 freestyle (50.43) and 50 butterfly (24.65).

The foursome of senior Matthew Bourgeois (Mattapoisett, Mass.), juniors Sean Flaherty (North Andover, Mass.) and Bryceon Snowman (Pace, Fla.), and sophomore Michael Leung (Wakefield, Mass.) opened the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay as they posted a time of 1:45.66.

Flaherty added a pair of individual victories in the 50 freestyle (22.94) and 100 backstroke (56.77), while Leung won the 100 butterfly (58.08).

Juniors Timucin Marino (East Greenwich, R.I.) and Dylon Willis (Attleboro, Mass.) also won two events apiece for the Bears. Marino in the 1,000 freestyle (11:16.39) and the 500 freestyle (5:29.16), Willis in the 50 breaststroke (28.01) and 100 breaststroke (59.76).

Senior Alexander Belinsky (Norton, Mass.) swept the diving competition as he posted scores of 199.80 points on the one-meter board and 218.00 points on the three-meter.

Senior Robert McDougall (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) rounded out the Bears' event winners with a first place time of 1:03.15 in the 100 individual medley.

Flaherty, McDougall, Willis and Santos also swam the meet-ending 200 freestyle relay as an exhibition and posted a top time of 1:31.65. Santos swam the final leg in a time of 21.97 seconds.

Next Tuesday evening, the Bears travel to UMass Dartmouth to take on the Corsairs at six o'clock.
