BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University and visiting Salve Regina University played to a 1-1 double overtime tie in non-conference men's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon at Swenson Field.
The host Bears see their record go to 0-2-1, while the Seahawks now stand at 1-0-1.
Junior forward Kevin Roberts (Medway, Mass.) staked the Bears to a 1-0 lead late in the first half as he potted his first goal of the season. Roberts collected a long crossing pass from freshman midfielder Will Halben (Attleboro, Mass.) and ripped a shot from 18 yards out just inside the right post. The assist marked Halben's second of the season.
Junior midfielder Jacob Guerra (Colchester, Conn.) notched the equalizer for Salve Regina in the 77th minute off an outstanding feed from senior defender Noah Medeiros (Dartmouth, Mass.). Guerra fired a shot inside the left post from 25 yards away for his first goal of the season.
Neither team found the back of the net in the two overtime periods with the Seahawks taking the only two shots in the extra sessions.
Salve finished with a 22-6 shot advantage for the game as well as an 11-6 edge in corner kick attempts.
Senior goalkeeper Nate Morgado (Dartmouth, Mass.) turned aside four shots between the pipes for the Bears, while freshman netminder Seth Wolins (Wake Forest, N.C.) made one save for the Seahawks. Wolins was making his collegiate debut.
Both teams are back in action on Saturday afternoon. The Bears travel to Emmanuel College for a three o'clock game with the Saints, while the Seahawks host Anna Maria College at one.
