Roberts, Alves Lead Men's Soccer to 4-0 Shutout Victory over UMass Dartmouth

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Sophomore forward Kevin Roberts (Medway, Mass.) potted a pair goals and senior midfielder Kessy Alves (Praia, Cape Verde) tallied a goal and two assists to lead the visiting Bridgewater State University men's soccer team to a 4-0 shutout victory over UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday night at Cressy Field.

Junior forward Joseph Cruise (Brockton, Mass.) also scored for the Bears who improve to 8-6 on the season.

BSU junior netminder Nate Morgado (Dartmouth, Mass.) turned aside seven shots to record his eighth win of the season and second straight shutout (third overall).

Cruise provided the Bears with the only tally they would need in the 13th minute as he found the back of the net off the rebound of an Alves shot. Alves extended that margin to 2-0 in the 75th minute with a blast from 26 yards out off a restart.

Roberts tacked on a pair of goals in the 77th and 83rd minutes of play to close out Bridgewater State's scoring and account for the final margin. Alves set up Roberts' first tally to cap off a four-point performance. Roberts' second goal marked his career-high and team-leading fifth of the season.

Freshman Chris Moussavi (Bellmore, N.Y.) also made seven stops in suffering the setback in goal for the Corsairs (1-10-3). The Bears outshot UMass Dartmouth by a 16-15 margin overall (11-7 on goal), while the hosts held a 6-3 edge in corner kicks for the contest.

UMass Dartmouth heads to Danbury, Connecticut to square off with Western Connecticut State University in a Little East Conference outing on Saturday afternoon beginning at 2:00 pm, while Bridgewater State travels to Buzzards Bay on Friday evening to take on Massachusetts Maritime Academy in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference clash that begins at 7:00 pm.
