Men's Soccer Falls to MIT, 3-0

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The MIT men's soccer team posted a 3-0 shutout victory over visiting Bridgewater State University on Wednesday night at Steinbrenner Stadium.

The host Engineers improve to 5-5-2 on the season as they snapped a four-game winless streak. The Bears fall to 6-6 overall.

Senior midfielder Wesley Woo (Palo Alto, Calif.) tallied a goal and an assist to lead the way for MIT. The Engineers are 8-3-3 all-time against Bridgewater State.

Freshman midfielder Peter Novoa (Omaha, Neb.) potted a header goal off Woo's corner kick just 3:58 into the contest to open the scoring. The goal marked the first of Novoa's collegiate career.

Senior defender Garrett Souza (Chino Hills, Calif.) beat the BSU netminder from 30 yards out in the 11th minute to stake the Engineers to a 2-0 lead.

MIT would take the 2-0 advantage into the break as the Engineers outshot the Bears, 11-6, over the first 45 minutes.

Woo converted a penalty kick in the 77th minute to cap off the scoring.

MIT held a 20-13 shot advantage for the game as well as a slight 6-5 edge in corner kick attempts.

Freshman goalkeeper Nicholas Jordan (Glen Allen, Va.) turned aside five shots to record his first collegiate win between the pipes for the Engineers. BSU junior keeper Nate Morgado (Dartmouth, Mass.) made eight saves in the setback for the Bears. Junior Michael Da Silva (Milford, Mass.) played the final 10:49 in relief of Morgado, but did not face a shot.

The Engineers travel to Clark University on Saturday afternoon to take on the Cougars at one in a New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup. The Bears host Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) rival Westfield State University on Saturday morning at 11:30.
