Carney, Ward Named to All-MASCAC Men's Basketball Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University junior guard Ryan Carney and junior forward Rayshon Ward have been voted by the league's coaches to the 2018-2019 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Basketball All-Conference Team.

Carney and Ward each garnered All-MASCAC Second Team honors. Ward is making his second appearance on the all-conference team, while Carney is making his debut.

Carney, who hails from Easton, Massachusetts, averaged 17.4 points, four rebounds and 3.9 assists over 27 games (all starts) this season while shooting 32% (48-149) from three-point range and 70% (76-108) at the free throw line. He currently ranks third in the MASCAC in both assists and made three-pointers as well as fifth in scoring.

In the Bears' MASCAC Tournament quarterfinal round victory over Framingham State, Carney became the 29th player in program history to break the 1,000-point milestone.

In 80 games over his first three seasons at Bridgewater State, Carney has amassed 1,027 points, 227 rebounds, 181 assists, 43 steals and is a career 44% (381-861) shooter from the floor, 32% (118-364) from behind the arc and 72% (147-203) at the free throw line.

A native of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Ward averaged 17.1 points, 10.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.4 blocks over 27 games (all starts) in his third season with the Bears. He also shot 48% (183-378) from the floor, 36% (29-80) from long range and 75% (67-89) at the charity stripe.

Ward currently ranks second in the MASCAC in rebounds, third in both blocks and double-doubles (15), fifth in three-point percentage, sixth in scoring and eighth in both field goal and free throw percentage. He is tied for 18th in all of Division III with his 15 double-doubles.

In 81 games over his first three seasons at Bridgewater State, Ward has amassed 960 points, 534 rebounds, 145 assists, 62 blocks and 64 steals. He is also a career 49% (365-752) shooter from the floor, 34% (59-175) from behind the arc and 72% (171-237) at the line.

The BSU men's basketball team closed out the 2018-2019 season with an overall record of 9-18 and went 6-6 in conference play. Seeded fourth in the MASCAC Tournament, the Bears knocked off the fifth-seeded Rams, 101-84, in the quarterfinal round before dropping an 93-80 decision to top-seeded Salem State in the semifinals.
