Hayes Nets 100th Career Point in 4-1 Win Over Framingham State

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- Senior midfielder Samantha Hayes (Norwood, Mass.) tallied a pair of goals including her 100th career point as the visiting Bridgewater State University field hockey team posted a 4-1 victory over Framingham State University in a Little East Conference (LEC) contest on Saturday night at Maple Street Field.

The Bears improve to 7-7 on the season and 5-5 in the Little East, while the host Rams fall to 2-9 overall and 0-9 in conference play.

The Bears got on the board first in the 17th minute when sophomore forward Emma Daly (Foxborough, Mass.) found the back of the cage after a scramble in front of the net. Freshman forward Victoria Camara (Westport, Mass.) picked up the assist on Daly's goal.

The Rams answered just under three minute later when senior midfielder Meaghann Ackerman (Littleton, Mass.) sent a long strike into the back of the cage from the top of the arc.

Bridgewater State responded moments later as Hayes stick-handled around two defenders and drilled a shot into the corner of the cage to send the teams to the break with the Bears leading 2-1.

The Bears added a couple insurance goals early in the second stanza. Hayes scored again with an assist from junior midfielder Jacqueline Legendre (Westport, Mass.) in the 44th minute. The scoring strike marked Hayes' team-leading 18th of the season and 100th career point. Just under six minutes later, sophomore forward Olivia Ahlman (Halifax, Mass.) scored off a one-time pass from Daly.

BSU senior goalkeeper Allison Chappell (Raynham, Mass.) made nine saves to record her sixth win of the season. Freshman netminder Grace Pushor (Old Town, Maine) made four saves in goal for Framingham State including a great stick save on a penalty stroke attempt in the second half.

Shots were even at 11 apiece, while the Bears edged the Rams in penalty corners 7-to-4.

The Rams will travel to New England College on Monday, October 15th for a 7:00pm game. The Bears will host UMass Dartmouth in Little East action on Wednesday, October 17th at 7:00pm.

Notes: Hayes became just the fourth player in BSU field hockey history to reach the 100-point milestone. She joins all-time leading scorer and BSU Hall of Famer Karen Croteau (186 pts.) as well as former standouts Shelby Farland (145 pts.) and Bethany Bush (119 pts.).
