Field Hockey Blanks Anna Maria, 3-0

PAXTON, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University received goals from three different players on Tuesday evening as the visiting Bears defeated Anna Maria College, 3-0, in a non-conference field hockey game at AMCAT Field.

The Bears stopped a five-game losing skid, improving to 3-5 on the season, while the host AMCATS drop to 3-9.

The Bears scored two goals just over a minute apart early in the first half to take a 2-0 lead. Junior Alexandra Zoebisch (Plymouth, Mass.) opened the scoring with her third goal of the season in the tenth minute, and freshman Emma Daley (Foxborough, Mass.) converted a goal from junior Mia Pelletier (New Bedford, Mass.) in the 11th minute for her third goal of the season as well.

The home team put three shots on goal in the first half but could not get on the scoreboard.

Junior Kathryn Jacobson (Norfolk, Mass.) tallied her first of the season just 92 seconds into the second half to give the visitors the 3-0 cushion.

Bridgewater State finished with a decisive 20-5 advantage in shots as well as an 11-1 edge in penalty corner attempts.

Junior keeper Allison Chappell (Raynham, Mass.) recorded her second solo shutout of the season for BSU, making five saves.

Senior Bryanna Tobin (Deep River, Conn.) made five saves in the first half for Anna Maria, and junior Danielle Huston (Spencer, Mass.) made seven stops in the second half.

The AMCATS are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 7, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match-up against Mount Ida College (10:00 a.m.). The Bears play another non-conference game Thursday, Oct. 5, at Springfield College (5:00 p.m.).
