Ben McMahon Named MASCAC Football Rookie of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University freshman linebacker Ben McMahon has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Football Rookie of the Week.

McMahon, who hails from Somerset, Massachusetts, recorded his first two collegiate interceptions and added four solo tackles to go along with a pass breakup in the Bears’ 56-20 Homecoming win over UMass Dartmouth. Both off McMahon’s interceptions, one of which was a 33-yard return, led to touchdowns. The Bears’ defense forced six turnovers in the game and held the high-powered Corsair offense to just 20 points.

In six games this season, McMahon has recorded 27 tackles (eight solo) with a sack, two interceptions and a pass breakup. He is currently tied for fifth in the MASCAC with his two picks.

The BSU football team is currently 4-3 on the season and 4-1 in the MASCAC as the Bears have won each of their last four games. Following a bye week, the Bears will entertain MASCAC foe Plymouth State University on Saturday, October 26th at 2:30 PM.
