BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Senior running back Nick Santavicca (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), senior right guard Nicholas Spinale (Chelmsford, Mass.), senior strong safety Mark Wilson (Foxborough, Mass.), junior left tackle Daniel Flores Martinez (Hyde Park, Mass.), junior wide receiver T.J. Hairston (Watertown, Mass.), sophomore defensive end Dimitri Dorinvil (Brockton, Mass.) and sophomore outside linebacker Steven Silvia (Dighton. Mass.) garnered All-MASCAC First Team honors to highlight the Bears' eleven representatives on the 2019 All-Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Football Team.
Senior center Michael Casey (Milford, Mass.), senior defensive tackle Chris Gemayel (Dedham, Mass.), senior tight end Joseph Leanos (Norwood, Mass.) and senior left guard Austin White (North Attleboro, Mass.) were each named to the All-MASCAC Second Team to round out the Bears' all-conference honorees.
Spinale, Flores Martinez, Hairston, Dorinvil, Casey and Leanos are all making their first appearance on the All-MASCAC Team. Silvia and Gemayel were first team selections in 2018, while Santavicca, White and Wilson garnered second team honors a year ago.
Flores Martinez, Spinale, Casey and White paved the way for 3,935 yards of total offense in ten games during the 2019 campaign, including 2,394 yards through the air and 1,541 on the ground. The Bears' averaged 31 points a game thanks in part to the outstanding play of the offensive line led by the all-conference quartet.
Santavicca carried the ball 158 times for 751 yards and seven touchdowns in 2019 despite missing two game due to injury. He cracked the 2,000-yard rushing barrier in the Bears' Cranberry Bowl win over Mass. Maritime on the final day of the season. Santavicca wraps up his career ninth all-time in program history in rushing touchdowns (23) and 12th in rushing yards (2,006).
Hairston hauled in a team-high 48 reception for 569 yards and five touchdown in ten games. He reached the 1,000-yard receiving milestone also in the Cranberry Bowl win over the Buccaneers. Hairston currently ranks ninth all-time in program history in receptions (86) and 14th un receiving yards (1,012).
Leanos grabbed 25 receptions for 275 yards and three touchdowns in one of the most productive pass-catching seasons for a tight end in BSU history.
The backbone of the Bears' secondary, Wilson registered 50 tackles (31 solo) with an interception and five pass breakup in his senior campaign. Wilson returned his first career interception 46 yards for a touchdown in a 21-9 MASCAC victory at Worcester State.
Dorinvil was a forced at defensive end as he notched 55 tackles (29 solo) with a team-best 14 tackles for loss and 5 1/2 sacks. He also batted down four passes and forced a fumble.
Silvia led the team with 72 tackles (42 solo) in 2019, including 8 1/2 for loss and a pair of sacks. He also recorded three pass breakup, forced and recovered a fumble.
Gemayel checked in with 50 tackles (27 solo), 12 1/2 tackles for loss and five sacks to go along with a pair of forced fumbles.
Santavicca ranks fourth in the MASCAC in rushing yards, despite missing two games, and is tied for fifth in rushing touchdowns. Hairston is fourth in the conference in receptions, fifth in receiving yards and tied for sixth in receiving touchdowns.
On the defensive side of the ball, Dorinvil is tied for fifth in the MASCAC in tackles for loss and ranks eighth in sacks, while Silvia is ninth in tackles and tied for tenth in solo tackles. Gemayel ranks seventh in the conference in tackles for loss and is also tied for fifth in forced fumbles and tied for ninth in sacks.
The BSU football team wrapped up the 2019 season with an overall record of 6-4 and finished tied for second place in the MASCAC standings with a 6-2 conference mark. The Bears capped off the season with a dramatic 26-21 come-from-behind win over Mass. Maritime Academy in the 41st Annual Cranberry Bowl.
