Equestrian Competes at Century Mill Stables Show

BOLTON, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University equestrian team competed at an Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone One, Region Four event hosted by Bentley University on Saturday at Century Mill Stables in Bolton.

Senior captain Kelly Thies (Cranston, R.I.) started the day off with intermediate fences on Trendy, a 16 hand bay Belgian Warmblood gelding, and placed third. Thies then placed fifth in open flat on Cermit, a 17.3 grey warmblood gelding.

Freshman Madison Elliott (Foxboro, Mass.) placed third in intermediate flat with EZ, a 16 hand bay warmblood gelding. Elliott added a fifth-place performance in novice fences with Fax, a 15 hand chestnut paint gelding.

Junior Jeanna Meloni (Falmouth, Mass.) rode Fergus, a 15.2 hand buckskin quarter horse gelding, in novice flat, placing fourth.

Junior Maria Marchione (Hull, Mass.) won her advanced walk trot Canter class on Snug, a 16 hand chestnut thoroughbred gelding.

Senior Kayla Martin (Bridgewater, Mass.) rode Epoch, a 16.2 chestnut thoroughbred gelding, in the advanced walk trot canter class. Martin placed second in her class and also pointed out of her division to move up to novice and qualify for regionals in the spring. Sophomore Tessa LeBlanc (Harwich, Mass.) rode Fax in the same advanced walk trot canter class and placed fourth.

Junior Sydney Hawes (Pembroke, Mass.) rode Vivid, a 16 hand grey warmblood cross gelding, in her debut advanced walk trot canter class, placing third. Senior Heather Griffin (Scituate, Mass.) rode Fax in her beginner walk trot canter and won the class. Sophomore Emily Adams (Plympton, Mass.) also rode Fax in beginner walk trot canter, placing third. Freshman Kendra Latham (Newburyport, Mass.) won her beginner walk trot canter class also on Fax.

The Bears tied for sixth place in the team standings.

The BSU equestrian team will be riding again on Sunday (Nov. 4) when the Bears head to Holly Hill Show Stable in Hanover, Massachusetts for a show hosted by Boston University.
