Equestrian Competes at Winters End Farm Show

STOUGHTON, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University equestrian team competed at an Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone 1, Region 4 event hosted by Stonehill College on Sunday at Winters End Farm in Stoughton.

Senior Kelly Thies (Cranston, R.I.) placed fourth in open flat on Bailey, a 16.2 chestnut gelding. Thies also finished fifth in intermediate fences on Zazu, a 16 hand bay gelding.

Freshman Madison Elliott (Foxboro, Mass.) rode Jimmy, a bay gelding, in novice fences and placed fourth. Elliott also rode Zazu in intermediate flat.

Junior Jeanna Meloni (Falmouth, Mass.) placed third in novice fences on Cota, a bay mare. Meloni also rode Pappi, a grey pony gelding, in novice flat and finished fourth.

Junior Maria Marchione (Hull, Mass.) and senior Kayla Martin (Bridgewater, Mass.) both competed in the advanced walk trot canter class. Marchione recorded a third-place showing on Pappi, while Martin placed fifth on Lance, a 16.2 hand thoroughbred gelding.

Sophomore Tessa LeBlanc (Harwich, Mass.) rode Oscar, a 16.1 hand grey gelding, in her advanced walk trot canter class, placing fifth.

Junior Sydney Hawes (Pembroke, Mass.) captured top honors in her beginner walk trot canter class on Tonka, a large appaloosa pony. With her performance, Hawes moved up to advanced walk trot canter.

Sophomore Emily Adams (Plympton, Mass.) rode Pappi and posted a third-place showing in her beginner walk trot canter class, while freshman Kendra Latham (Newburyport, Mass.) also finished third in beginner walk trot canter on Dillon.

Senior Michelle Tonkonogy (Milford, Mass.) capped of the day with a win in her beginner walk trot canter class on Pappi.

The Bears placed eighth in the team scoring.

The BSU equestrian team will be riding again on Saturday, November 3rd when the Bears head to Century Mill Stables in Bolton, Massachusetts for a show hosted by Bentley University.
