Madden Leads Women's Cross Country at Franklin Pierce

HOPKINTON, NH. -- Senior Jenise Madden (Milford, Mass.) captured the meet title to lead the Bridgewater State University women's cross country team on Saturday at the Seventh Annual Bruce Kirsh Cup hosted by Franklin Pierce University at the Hopkinton Fairgrounds.

Madden won the meet with a time of 18:43.7 leading the field of 73 runners over the five-kilometer course. The next closest finisher was Mary Kate Barton of New Haven with a time of 19:24.4.

The Bears placed third in the team standings trailing only meet champion St. Anselm College and Southern Connecticut State University. Bridgewater State was the only Division III program competing at the seven-team meet which featured five Division II schools

Also placing in the top ten for the Bears was sophomore Katherine Vogel (Pawling, NY.) who crossed the line in ninth with a time of 20:00.4.  The next BSU runner placing in the top 20 was freshman Julie Glavin (Weymouth, Mass.) who finished 18th with a time of 20:32.1.

The next two to complete the course for the Bears were sophomore Colleen Moreau (Franklin, Mass) and freshman Megan Leary (North Attleboro, Mass.). Moreau placed 22nd with a time of 20:52.3, while Leary checked in at 28th with a time of 21:06.6.

Following an off weekend, the Bears will compete at the Westfield State 24th Annual James Earley Invitational on Saturday, October 12th.
