Women's Cross Country Places 34th at New England Championships

GORHAM, Maine -- The Bridgewater State University women's cross country team competed at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Cross Country Championships hosted by the University of Southern Maine on Saturday.

The Bears placed 34th overall in the team standings.

Sophomore Jenise Madden (Milford, Mass.) was the Bears' top harrier at the meet as she covered the six-kilometer course in a time of 23:30.9 to finish 111th overall. Senior Kristyn Grattan (Hanover, Mass.) recorded a time of 23:46.4 (133rd place), while junior Emily Guyon (Hopedale, Mass.) crossed the line in 24:06.7 (166th place) to round out BSU's top three runners.

Freshman Kaitlyn Mooney of U.S. Coast Guard Academy won the individual championship with a time of 20:22.6.

MIT captured the team title while Tufts University, Williams College, Middlebury College, Bates College and Amherst College rounded out the top six. MIT and Tufts automatically qualified for the NCAA Division III Championship.

Williams. Middlebury, Bates and Amherst are among those that will be competing for at large bids to the NCAA Division III Championships. In total, 16 teams nationwide will qualify at the discretion of the USTFCCCA selection committee. Each region is limited to a maximum of six teams.
