Women's Cross Country Competes at NEICAAA Championships

DORCHESTER, Mass. – Senior Kristyn Grattan (Hanover, Mass.) placed 143rd out of a field of 194 runners to lead the Bridgewater State University women's cross country team at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Championships held on Saturday at Franklin Park.

Grattan covered the five-kilometer course in a time of 20:40. Senior Heather MacLean of Division I UMass Amherst won the women's race with a time of 17:37.

Sophomore Jenise Madden (Milford, Mass.) was next across the line for the Bears as she placed 144th overall with a time of 20:43. Madden was followed by junior Emily Guyon (Hopedale, Mass.) in 176th place (21:32).

The Bears did not place in the team standings. Division I University of New Hampshire captured the team title followed by Division I Boston College in second place and MIT in third.

Several members of the BSU women's cross country team competed at the James Earley Invitational held at Stanley Park in Westfield also on Saturday.

Junior Haley Piotrowski (Feeding Hills, Mass.) was the Bears' top finisher as she covered the five-kilometer layout in a time of 24:22.37 to place 208th overall out of field of 257 harriers. Senior Abby Shafer of New England College won the race with a time of 18:08.57.

Freshman Sansha Alexis (Brockton, Mass.) was next across the line for the Bears as she placed 209th overall with a time of 24:37.91. Alexis was followed by classmate Jordan Knapp (Weymouth, Mass.) in 212th place (24:52.59).

The Bears did not place in the team standings. Trinity College captured the team title followed by the University of New England in second place and Worcester State University in third.

Next weekend, the BSU cross country teams will compete at the Connecticut College Invitational held at Harkness Memorial State Park.
