Madden Leads Women's Cross Country at UMD Invitational

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Sophomore Jenise Madden (Milford, Mass.) placed 46th to lead the Bridgewater State University women's cross country team at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday.

Madden covered the five-kilometer layout in a time of 19:37.02. Senior Abby Shafer of University of New England checked in with the winning time of 17:53.13.

BSU senior Kristyn Grattan (Hanover, Mass.) was the next Bear to cross the finish line as she posted a time of 20:09.04 to finish 83rd overall. Junior Emily Guyon (Hopedale, Mass.) capped off BSU's top three runners with a time of 20:12.270. Guyon placed 90th out of a field of 299 harriers.

The Bears finished 20th in the team standings. Division II Assumption College won the team title followed by Trinity College in second place and Brandeis University in third. 

Next Saturday, the Bears will compete at the 49th Annual Codfish Bowl held at Franklin Park in Dorchester, Massachusetts.
