Former BSU Volleyball Standout Signs Pro Contract in Germany

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Former Bridgewater State University volleyball standout and 2013 BSU Hall of Famer inductee, Kelsey Collasius, has signed a contract to play professionally in Germany.

Collasius signed with VFL Oythe, a professional volleyball team out of Vechta, Germany. VFL Oythe competes in the north division of the Volleyball Bundesliga (VBL). Volleyball Bundesliga is considered the top professional league in Germany.

One of  the top players in BSU volleyball history, Collasius had a terrific four-year career for the Bears’ from 2004 to 2007. She is the program’s record holder for kills in a game, season and career. Collasius tallied 1,762 kills including a program-best 597 as a junior in 2006 and 559 during her senior year. Her 32 kills against Westfield State in 2006 shattered her own mark of 26 set earlier that season against Bates.

Collasius is also second all-time in program history with 641 career blocks and never missed a match playing all 147 contests during her four-year career.

A four-time All-Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) selection and two-time MASCAC Player of the Year (2006, 2007), Collasius helped the Bears capture four straight MASCAC Tournament championships and advance to the NCAA Division III Tournament in each of her four seasons. She was also named to the New England Women’s Volleyball Association (NEWVA) Second Team as a junior in 2006 and an honorable mention honoree in 2007.

A native of Rochester, Massachusetts, Collasius earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Bridgewater State in 2008. She was one of six members inducted into the BSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2013.

VFL Oythe opened the 2019-2020 VBL season on Saturday, September 14th against TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen. The season runs from September to April with 24 matches on the schedule.
