Volleyball Drops Pair of Matches at Plymouth State Tri-Match

PLYMOUTH, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University volleyball team competed in a pair of matches at a tri-match hosted by Plymouth State University on Saturday afternoon at Foley Gymnasium. The Bears dripped a 3-2 decision (24-26, 25-18, 25-15, 14-25, 15-13) to Rhode Island College and lost 3-0 (25-14, 25-11, 25-20) to the host Panthers.

Junior setter Casey Holmes (Norton, Mass.) notched 55 assists in the two matches to go along with 26 digs, three assisted blocks, three kills and a pair of aces. Holmes recorded 40 assists in the five-set setback to RIC.

Junior outside hitter Abigail Gardner (Holden, Mass.) tallied 24 kills, 17 digs and one ace on the afternoon. Gardner registered a career-high 19 kills against the Anchorwomen.

Freshman libero Victoria Caiano (New Bedford, Mass.) added 38 digs and five aces for the Bears, while junior outside hitter Gabryella Serrano (Bridgewater, Mass.) posted 13 kills, 28 digs and a pair of assisted blocks. Sophomore right side hitter Becca Whalen (Plymouth, Mass.) contributed nine kills and two assisted blocks, and junior middle hitter Sydney Rice (Medway, Mass.) checked in with eight kills and four assisted blocks.

The Bears travel to Fitchburg State University on Tuesday evening for a six o'clock MASCAC match with the Falcons.
