Volleyball Falls to UMass Dartmouth, 3-0

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The UMass Dartmouth volleyball team posted a 3-0 victory over visiting Bridgewater State University on Tuesday night at the Tripp Athletic Center.

The Corsairs (6-10) won by game scores of 25-16, 25-19 and 25-15. The visiting Bears fall to 6-8 with the setback.

Sophomore outside hitter Mallory Singer (Succasunna, N.J.) notched seven kills and three assisted blocks to lead UMass. Sophomore middle hitter Emma Aillet (Deer Park, Tex.) added seven kills for the Corsairs, while senior outside hitter Nicole Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.) checked in with six kills and 14 digs. Senior setter Jordan Rittberger (Huntington, N.Y.) and junior setter Riley Thomas (Fairhaven, Mass.).combined for 24 assists and seven aces, and senior libero Jillian Sykora (Waterford, Conn.) recorded 14 digs.

Junior middle hitter Sydney Rice (Medway, Mass.) registered six kills in the setback for the visiting Bears, who also received four kills and nine digs from junior outside hitter Abigail Gardner (Holden, Mass.) along with three kills and seven digs from junior outside hitter Gabryella Serrano (Bridgewater, Mass.). Junior setter Casey Holmes (Norton, Mass.) collected 15 assists, six digs and an ace.

UMass recorded a .216 hitting percentage with 32 kills, and notched four team blocks. The Corsairs also finished with as many aces (10) as serving errors (10).

Bridgewater State struggled on the attack as the Bears tallied more attacking errors (26) than kills (19). The visitors also posted just three aces and committed seven serving errors.

UMass Dartmouth hosts Southern Maine and Smith in a tri-match on Saturday at noon, while Bridgewater State heads to Plymouth, N.H. on Saturday for a non-league tri-match with Rhode Island College and host Plymouth State that begins at 2:00 PM.
