Volleyball Blanks Lasell, 3-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Junior middle hitter Sydney Rice (Medway, Mass.) tallied 13 kills and five blocks to lead the Bridgewater State University volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over visiting Lasell University on Wednesday evening at the Tinsley Center. The Bears won by game scores of 25-19, 25-19 and 25-20.

Bridgewater State improves to 2-1 on the young season, while Lasell falls to 1-4.

Rice posted a .455 hitting percentage and three of her five blocks were of the solo variety.

Junior outside hitter Abigail Gardner (Holden, Mass.) added seven kills and a pair of aces for the Bears, while junior setter Casey Holmes (Norton, Mass.) filled the stat sheet with three kills, 14 assists, three aces, four digs and three solo blocks. Junior defensive specialist Gabryella Serrano (Bridgewater, Mass.) checked in with nine digs and three aces, and classmate Maggie Czarniak (Kingston, Mass.) recorded five aces.

Bridgewater posted a team hitting percentage of .243 and finished with 15 aces compared to ten serving errors. The Bears' defense limited the visiting Lasers to a .013 hitting percentage. Lasell notched eight aces and seven serving errors.

Sophomore outside hitter Kiana Perez Diaz (Juncos, P.R.) paced the visitors with ten kills, nine digs and a pair of aces, while junior setter Katie Schneider (Covina, Calif.) tallied ten assists and four digs.

The Bears travel to Dean College on Friday evening for a six o'clock game with the Bulldogs, while the Lasers host Fitchburg State University on Saturday afternoon at one.
