Kayla Baril Named MASCAC Volleyball Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior outside hitter Kayla Baril has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) GEICO Volleyball Player of the Week. GEICO is the proud sponsor of the MASCAC weekly awards program.

Baril averaged ten kills, 14 digs, and three aces with a .241 hitting percentage in a 1-1 week for the Bears last week which included a 3-1 MASCAC victory at home over Salem State University. The Seekonk, Massachusetts product tallied ten kills, 16 digs, an assisted block and six aces in the win over the Vikings. She also notched ten kills to go along with twelve digs in a 3-0 setback to Lassell College.

Through 20 matches (67 sets) this season, Baril has recorded a team-best 143 kills as well as 29 aces, 151 digs and 14 blocks (five solo). She ranks seventh in the MASCAC in points per set (2.7), ninth in kills per set (2.13) and 11th in aces per set (0.43).

In 50 matches over two seasons at Bridgewater State, Baril has amassed 377 kills, 61 aces, 382 digs and 31 blocks (nine solo).

The BSU volleyball team is currently 5-15 on the season with a 4-3 mark in conference play. Bridgewater State is seeded fifth in this week's MASCAC Tournament and will travel to #4 Framingham State University on Tuesday evening for a first round match with the Rams at 7:30 PM.
