Volleyball Sweeps MCLA, 3-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's volleyball team swept visiting MCLA, 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-12), in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) match on Homecoming Saturday at the Tinsley Center.

The host Bears improve to 4-10 on the season and 3-2 in the MASCAC, while the Trailblazers fall to 6-14 overall and 0-5 in conference play.

Sophomore middle hitter Sydney Rice (Medway, Mass.) paced Bridgewater State with nine kills, a .600 hitting percentage, five blocks (two solo) and a pair of aces. Junior middle hitter Erin Clifford (Hanson, Mass.) and senior outside hitter Kayla Baril (Seekonk, Mass.) chipped in seven kills apiece for the Bears. Clifford added three blocks (one solo), while Baril added seven digs, two blocks (one solo) and an ace.

Sophomore setter Casey Holmes (Norton, Mass.) and senior setter Picabo Miskiv (Barnstable, Mass.) combined for 27 assists. Holmes also finished with an match-best five aces. Senior libero Cassidy Tyros (Chelmsford, Mass.) notched 14 digs, including the 1,500th of her career, to go along with four assists and an ace. Tyros is third all-time in program history with 1,506 digs.

The Bears posted a season-best .430 team hitting percentage. Bridgewater also recorded ten aces led by Holmes' five.

Junior middle hitter Sara LaFreniere (Becket, Mass.) and freshman outside hitter Laiken Cornwell-L'Hote (Dalton, Mass.) led MCLA with eight and seven kills, respectively. Junior setter Tessa Sestito (Corona, Calif.) dished out 16 assists to go along with five digs and a pair of kills.

The Trailblazers recorded a .043 hitting percentage and finished with just two aces and four serving errors.

The MASCAC schedule continues for both teams on Wednesday evening. The Bears travel to Worcester State University for a seven o'clock match with the Lancers, while the Trailblazers entertain Fitchburg State University at six.
