Volleyball Posts 3-2 Comeback Win over UMass Dartmouth

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's volleyball team rallied from a two-set deficit as the Bears posted a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over visiting UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday evening at the Tinsley Center.

The Bears (3-8) dropped the first two sets, 21-25 and 20-25, before sweeping the final three, 25-23, 25-17 and 15-11.

Bridgewater State was led by sophomore middle hitter Sydney Rice (Medway, Mass.) and senior outside hitter Kayla Baril (Seekonk, Mass.). Rice notched a season-high nine kills to go along with one ace, two solo blocks, three digs and a .391 hitting percentage, while Baril checked in with a season-best 12 kills as well as two aces and two solo blocks.

BSU senior outside hitter Grace Stafford (Yarmouth, Mass.) chipped in with ten kills, a match-high four aces, 16 digs and an assisted block, while sophomore right side hitter Alexis Duarte (Fairhaven, Mass.) also finished with a season-high ten kills.  Senior libero Cassidy Tyros (Chelmsford, Mass.) posted a season-best 30 digs to go along with seven assists and a pair of aces. Sophomore setter Casey Holmes (Norton, Mass.) dished out a career-best 24 assists and notched ten digs, while senior setter Picabo Miskiv (Barnstable, Mass.) contributed 12 assists, a match-high four aces and ten digs.

The Bears posted a team .172 hitting percentage with 12 aces with 15 serving errors. Bridgewater also finished with seven blocks (five solo).

Junior outside hitter Nicole Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.) paced the Corsairs with a match-best 16 kills in addition to 16 digs, two aces and an assisted block. Junior outside hitter Amanda LaCroix (East Freetown, Mass.) added ten kills, one aces and 20 digs, while sophomore setter Riley Thomas (Fairhaven, Mass.) registered a match-high 35 assists to go along with five kills and two aces. Junior libero Jillian Sykora (Waterford, Conn.) checked in with 22 digs and three aces.

The Corsairs posted a team .145 hitting percentage with nine aces and five serving errors.

The Bears are off until next Tuesday evening  when they travel to Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) rival Framingham State University to take on the Rams at six.  The Corsairs head to Little East Conference (LEC) foe Keene State College on Saturday for a tri-match with the host Owls and Maine Presque Isle.
