Volleyball Rallies for 3-2 Win over Lasell

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University volleyball team rallied from two sets down to post a 3-2 victory over visiting Lasell College in non-conference action on Tuesday night at the Tinsley Center.

After dropping the first two sets, 22-25 and 20-25, the Bears won the next two, 25-14 and 25-20, before clinching the match with a 15-11 decision in the fifth and deciding set.

Bridgewater improves to 6-20 with the triumph, while Lasell falls to 12-18.

Junior outside hitter Kayla Baril (Seekonk, Mass.) recorded a season-high 20 kills to go along with an ace and ten digs to lead the way for the Bears, while junior setter Picabo Miskiv (Centerville, Mass.) dished out a career-best 45 assists.

Junior outside hitter Elizabeth Roberts (Swansea, Mass.), sophomore middle blocker Sarah Gibbons (Quincy, Mass.) and freshman outside hitter Alexis Duarte (Fairhaven, Mass.) also finished with season-high double-digit figures in kills. Roberts tallied 12 kills as well as a pair of blocks (one solo), while Gibbons notched 11 kills to go along with three blocks (two solo) and Duarte recorded 12 kills.

Junior libero Cassidy Tyros (Chelmsford, Mass.) posted a season-best 32 digs in addition to six assists and three aces. Tyros moved into fourth place on the Bears' all-time digs list as she increased her career total to 1,250. Tyros moved past former standout Shannon Desmond who registered 1,219 digs from 2005 to 2006.

Junior outside hitter Olivia Addington (Orange, Calif.) paced Lasell with a match-high 21 kills to go along with 11 digs, an ace and three assisted blocks. Senior setter Taylor Tiezzi (Meriden, Conn.) added 29 assists, 14 digs and an ace for the Lasers, while senior outside hitter Michele Canestro (Castleton, N.Y.) registered 16 kills and ten digs. Senior middle hitter Meredith Eagan (North Andover, Mass.) also contrbuted 11 kills and a pair of solo blocks for the visitors.

Tiezzi reached the 1,000-dig milestone in the setback.

The Bears wrap up regular season play on Saturday when they travel to MASCAC rival Salem State University for a tri-match with the host Vikings and Brandeis University. The Lasers travel to Emerson College on Thursday night for a seven o'clock match with the Lions.
