Volleyball Drops Pair of Matches at Hall of Fame Invitational

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches during the second and final day of the Hall of Fame Invitational hosted by Smith College on Saturday.

The Bears (5-20), who went 1-2 at the invitational, lost to Worcester State University by a 3-0 margin (25-21, 25-12, 25-19) and fell to Colby College, 3-1 (25-16, 17-25, 25-21, 25-16).

In the match against Worcester State, junior outside hitter Kayla Baril (Seekonk, Mass.) finished with nine kills and 11 digs, while sophomore middle blocker Sarah Gibbons (Quincy, Mass.) notched six kills and three blocks (two solo). Junior setter Picabo Miskiv (Centerville, Mass.) dished out 23 assists and added seven digs, two assisted blocks and an ace.

Baril recorded nine kills, five aces and ten digs to lead the Bears in the match with Colby. Gibbons tallied five kills, and a solo block, while Miskiv posted 22 assists and six digs. Freshman middle hitter Sydney Rice (Medway, Mass.) contributed six kills and two blocks (one solo), and junior libero Cassidy Tyros (Chelmsford, Mass.) checked in with 29 digs and a pair of aces.

Miskiv represented Bridgewater State on the All-Tournament Team.

Bridgewater State is back in action on Tuesday evening as the Bears entertain non-conference foe Lasell College at six.
