Volleyball Swept at MCLA Tri-Match

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches during a tri-match hosted by MCLA on Saturday at Amsler Gym.

The Bears (4-17, 2-3 MASCAC) lost to the host Trailblazers in a MASCAC match by a score of 3-2 (25-20, 19-25, 25-19, 23-25, 15-11). Bridgewater also bowed to non-conference foe Eastern Connecticut State University by a 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-15) margin.

In the loss to MCLA, junior outside hitter Kayla Baril (Seekonk, Mass.) recorded a season-high 18 kills. Junior setter Picabo Miskiv (Centerville, Mass.) dished out a career-high 42 assists, while junior libero Cassidy Tyros (Chelmsford, Mass.) led the defense with 23 digs. Baril added to her monster game with 20 digs, seven aces and a solo block. Sophomore middle blocker Shannon Grindle (Halifax, Mass.) checked in with five kills, a team-best .286 hitting percentage and three blocks (one solo).

Sophomore outside hitter Brooke Queripel (Palmer, Ark.) led the Trailblazers with 16 kills and a .318 hitting percentage. Senior Brianne O'Rourke (Piseco, N.Y.) notched eight kills and four blocks, while freshman setter Natasha Stewart (North Andover, Mass.) collected 25 assists and senior defensive specialist Mele Enomoto (Wailuku, Hawaii) registered 19 digs.

In the setback to Eastern Connecticut, freshman outside hitter Abigail Gardner (Holden, Mass.) tallied 13 digs, two assists and an ace. Freshman outside hitter Devan McNeill (Lakeville, Mass.) finished with a team-best four kills, while Baril, freshman outside hitter Alexis Duarte (Fairhaven, Mass.) and freshman right side hitter Casey Holmes (Norton, Mass.) finished with three kills apiece.

Freshman outside hitter Abby Stern (Manchester, Conn.) posted 11 kills and 18 digs to lead the way for the Warriors who also received 20 assists and ten digs from sophomore setter Mckenzie Maneggia (Andover, Conn.) and seven kills, four aces and two assisted blocks from freshman outside hitter Alaetra Long (Lincoln, Neb.).

The Bears are back in action on Wednesday evening when they host a MASCAC match with Worcester State University starting at six o'clock.
