Volleyball Drops 3-0 Decision to Salve Regina

NEWPORT, R.I. -- The Salve Regina University women's volleyball team earned its sixth straight victory with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-18) sweep of visiting Bridgewater State University in non-conference action Thursday evening.

This was the seventh meeting between the two teams. The Seahawks now own a 5-2 record in the series and have won five straight over the Bears.

Salve Regina senior Samantha Salwa (Ellington, Conn.) had 33 assists, five kills, four digs, and an ace, while freshman Andee Bender (Lebanon, Conn.) notched a match-high 11 kills while hitting at a .478 percent clip. Junior Cassidy Trabilcy (Phoenix, Ariz.) recorded ten kills and eight digs.

Despite attempting 17 more swings than the Bears (102 to 85) the Seahawks still hit at a .378 percent clip while the Bears swung for a .129 percentage.

The Bears trailed 2-0 in the match, but would not go quietly in the third, building a 14-10 lead in a tightly contested set. The Seahawks ramped things up though and closed with a 15-4 run, completing the sweep.

Freshman Devan McNeill (Lakeville, Mass.) and junior Kayla Baril (Seekonk, Mass.) led the Bears in kills with five each. Junior Picabo Miskiv (Centerville, Mass.) dished out 21 assists, while classmate Cassidy Tyros (Chelmsford, Mass.) registered a match-high 16 digs. Freshman Kathryn Linekin (Ridgefield, Conn.) matched her output with 16 digs for Salve.

Salve Regina (11-10) hosts Western New England on Wednesday, October 18th at 7:00 PM in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match. Bridgewater State (4-15) travels to face MASCAC foe MCLA on Saturday, October 14th at 4:00 PM as part of a tri-match.
