Volleyball Falls to Emerson, 3-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to visiting Emerson College on Thursday night at the Tinsley Center.

The visiting Lions even their 2017 record at 9-9 with the win, while the host Bears fall to 4-13.

Emerson won by set scores of 25-18, 25-18 and 25-14.

For the Lions, freshman right side hitter Albany Alexander (Orlando, Fla.) notched a match-high ten kills to go along with a solo block, while senior middle hitter Halley Dewey (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) added eight kills and junior middle hitter Kelley Guerra (Randolph, N.J.) filled the stat sheet with six kills, three solo blocks and two aces. Junior setter Moira Brennan (Glenview, Ill.) dished out 21 assists, while sophomore outside hitter Kayleen Bertrand (New Boston, N.H.) registered five kills, a match-best seven aces as well as five digs.

Emerson posted a .179 hitting percentage and recorded 11 aces in the match (and 11 serving errors).

Junior outside hitter Megan Tamasanis (South Easton, Mass.) recorded seven kills for the Bears who also received 13 digs from junior libero Cassidy Tyros (Chelmsford, Mass.), 15 assists from junior setter Alyssa Kelley (Mansfield, Mass.) and three solo blocks from sophomore middle blocker Sarah Gibbons (Quincy, Mass.).

Bridgewater finished with as many attacking errors (21) as kills (21).

Both teams are off until next Tuesday evening. The Bears host defending MASCAC champion Framingham State University at six, while the Lions travel to NEWMAC foe Smith College for a seven o'clock match with the Pioneers.
