Volleyball Splits Pair of Matches at RIC

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Bridgewater State University volleyball team split a non-conference tri-match with Becker College and host Rhode Island College on Saturday at the Murray Center.

Bridgewater State downed Becker, 3-1 (20-25, 25-14, 25-19, 25-17), in the middle game of the tri-match. RIC defeated Becker, 3-0 (25-18, 25-7, 25-14), in the opener before knocking off Bridgewater State, 3-0 (25-16, 25-9, 25-17), in the nightcap.

The host Anchorwomen improve to 9-7 with the two wins, while the Bears are now 4-12. Becker falls to 7-10.

Bridgewater State vs. Becker

Freshman middle hitter Sydney Rice (Medway, Mass.) led the way for Bridgewater State with 13 kills and four digs, while sophomore middle blocker Sarah Gibbons (Quincy, Mass.) added nine kills in the contest. Junior Picabo Miskiv (Centerville, Mass.) recorded 24 assists and five service aces.

Becker was paced by junior middle blocker Kayla Dupree (North Bergen, N.J.) with nine kills and three digs, while Criddle and sophomore right side hitter Morgan Gould (North Attleboro, Mass.) each notched seven kills. Landry recorded 26 assists and six digs in the setback for the Hawks.

Becker had a .140 (33-19-100) hitting percentage, while Bridgewater State hit .235 (42-18-102). The Bears had 21 service aces and five blocks, while both teams notched 35 digs in the contest.

RIC vs. Bridgewater State

RIC was led by junior outside hitter Jillian Ward (Coventry, R.I.), who narrowly missed a double-double with 13 kills and nine digs. Senior outside hitter Courtney Lambrese (Cranston, R.I.) was also in double figures with 11 kills, six digs and two service aces for the Anchorwomen.

Brielmaier notched seven kills and contributed four blocks, while sophomore right side hitter Jacqueline Jutras (Foster, R.I.) added six kills with five digs.

White notched 22 assists with freshman libero Samantha Borges (Swansea, Mass.) notching 12 digs.

Rice paced Bridgewater State with five kills, while junior libero Cassidy Tyros (Chelmsford, Mass.) recorded a match-high 13 digs in the setback. Miskiv tallied 11 assists and five digs.

RIC had a .268 (39-13-97) hitting percentage, while Bridgewater State hit .045 (19-15-88). The Anchorwomen had 12 service aces and a 45-35 advantage in digs for the contest.

RIC vs. Becker

In the opening win over Becker, Lambrese led the way for the Anchorwomen with 15 kills and three digs.

RIC sophomore middle blocker Jessica Brielmaier (West Greenwich, R.I.) notched seven kills and three blocks, while freshman outside hitter Jenaeya Evans (Marietta, Ga.) added five kills, three digs and three service aces.

RIC senior setter Abigayl White (Coventry, R.I.) notched 18 assists and five digs.

Becker was paced by sophomore outside hitter Gillian Criddle (Earleville, Md. with five kills and two digs, while senior setter Charlene Landry (Gorham, Maine) had nine assists and three digs.

RIC had a .306 (40-14-85) hitting percentage, while Becker hit -.062 (11-15-64). The Anchorwomen had 14 service aces and six blocks in the victory.
