Volleyball Posts 3-0 MASCAC Win Over Mass. Maritime

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University volleyball team posted to a 3-0 victory over visiting Massachusetts Maritime Academy in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) match on Wednesday evening at the Tinsley Center. BSU won the match by set scores of 25-8, 25-17 and 25-21.

The host Bears improve to 3-11 on the season and 2-1 in the MASCAC, while the Buccaneer fall to 2-13 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

Junior setter Picabo Miskiv (Centerville, Mass.) paced Bridgewater State with 25 assists, six digs, three kills and two aces. Sophomore middle hitter Sarah Gibbons (Quincy, Mass.) led all players with ten kills, while junior outside hitter Kayla Baril (Seekonk, Mass.) notched seven kills and freshman outside hitter Kiana Bueno (Methuen, Mass.) added six kills. The Bears also received six kills and an ace from freshman middle hitter Sydney Rice (Medway, Mass.), while junior defensive specialist Alyssa Kelley (Mansfield, Mass.) tallied six digs and a match-best three aces. Junior libero Cassidy Tyros (Chelmsford, Mass.) finished with nine digs and two aces, and freshman outside hitter Alexis Duarte (Fairhaven, Mass.) contributed eight digs and a pair of aces.

Sophomore libero Tina Ruggeri (Bourne, Mass.) notched 15 digs for the visiting Buccaneer who also received five kills from sophomore outside hitter Marie Harrison (Weymouth, Mass.) and three solo blocks from sophomore middle hitter Meghan Sullivan (Hanover, Mass.).

The Bears travel to Rhode Island College on Saturday (noon) for a non-conference tri-match with the host Anchorwomen and Becker College. The  Buccaneers are off until next Tuesday night when they host Pine Manor College at seven.
