Volleyball Falls to Johnson & Wales & Wesleyan at JWU Invitational

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Bridgewater State University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches during the second and final day of the JWU Invitational held at Johnson & Wales University.

The Bears (1-7) lost to host Johnson & Wales, 3-0 (25-7, 25-14, 25-9), and to Wesleyan University also by a 3-0 (25-13, 25-9, 25-18) score. Bridgewater went 0-4 during the two-day invitational.

Junior libero Cassidy Tyros (Chelmsford, Mass.) garnered All-Tournament honors for the Bears. Tyros notched 11 digs against Wesleyan and eight digs and an assist in the match with JWU. She finished with 41 digs, six assists and an ace in four matches during the two-day invitational. Tyros now has 988 digs in her three season on the BSU volleyball team.

In the loss to Johnson & Wales, junior outside hitter Kayla Baril (Seekonk, Mass.) notched five kills, seven digs and an ace, while junior outside hitter Megan Tamasanis (South Easton, Mass.) added five kills and junior setter Alyssa Kelley (Mansfield, Mass.) dished out 11 assists.

Baril, Tamasanis and sophomore middle blocker Sarah Gibbons (Quincy, Mass.) each contributed three kills in the setback to Wesleyan. Baril also tallied eight digs, while Gibbons added an assist, an ace and two blocks (one solo). Kelly recorded eight assists to go along with four digs.

The Bears open the MASCAC schedule on Tuesday night when they travel to Fitchburg State University for a seven o'clock match with the Falcons.
