Volleyball Competes at JWU Invitational

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Bridgewater State University volleyball team competed in a pair of matches during day one of the JWU Invitational held on Friday at Johnson & Wales University.

The Bears' dropped a 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-19) decision to Wheaton College and fell to Maine Maritime Academy by a margin of 3-2 (25-18, 25-27, 25-10, 23-25, 15-10).

In the loss to Wheaton, junior outside hitter Kayla Baril (Seekonk, Mass.) paced BSU with five kills, while junior setter Elexi Miskiv (Centerville, Mass.) notched seven assists and six digs. Junior libero Cassidy Tyros (Chelmsford, Mass.) chipped in with nine digs.

Baril filled the stat sheet with ten kills, two solo blocks, seven digs, two assists and an ace in the setback to Maine Martime. Junior setter Alyssa Kelley (Mansfield, Mass.) dished out 16 assists to go along with an ace, while Tyros checked in with 13 digs , four assists and an ace.

The JWU Invitational continues on Saturday as the Bears take on host Johnson & Wales at 10:00 AM and Wesleyan University at noon.
