Volleyball Sweeps by Regis, 3-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University volleyball team posted a 3-0 victory over visiting Regis College on Thursday evening at the Tinsley Center.

The host Bears improve to 2-7 on the season, while the Pride fall to 1-9.

Bridgewater cruised to a 25-13 win in the opening set and hung on for a 25-21 decision in the second. The Bears held a comfortable 20-14 lead in the third and final set before watching that lead disappear. The Bears actually trailed 24-23 before pulling out the 27-25 win and a sweep of the match.

BSU senior setter Charleyne Panner (Gilford, N.H.) paced Bridgewater with nine kills, 24 assists, three digs and an ace. Senior outside hitter Hannah Maymon (Narragansett, R.I.) added ten kills, four digs and an ace, while senior outside hitter Clara Goncalves (Dennis, Mass.) tallied eight kills and three blocks (one solo).

Sophomore libero Cassidy Tyros (Chelmsford, Mass.) checked in with 17 digs, a kill and a pair of aces, while sophomore middle blocker Erin Clifford (Hanson, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' stat leaders with five kills to go along with four blocks (two solo).

Bridgewater finished with nine aces in the match.

Junior outside hitter Sydney Trusty (Durham, Conn.) led the way for Regis with five kills and three aces, while junior setter Shay Faber (Fort Lauderdale, Mass.) notched 12 assists, a pair of kills and an ace.

The Pride struggled at the net posting a .047 hitting percentage and recording 11 blocking errors.

Both teams are back in action on Saturday. The Bears host a tri-match with Salem State University and Daniel Webster College starting at noon, while the Pride travel to Johnson & Wales University for a 10:00 AM tri-match with the host Wildcats and Connecticut College.
