PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Bridgewater State University volleyball team opened the 2016 season at the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Johnson & Wales University on Friday evening.
The Bears dropped a pair of decisions to Gordon College (25-15, 25-14, 25-20) and host Johnson & Wales (25-6, 25-17, 25-13).
BSU senior outside hitter Hannah Maymon (Narragansett, R.I.) notched 17 kills to go along with nine digs in the two matches. With the 17 kills, Maymon increased her career total to 972.
Senior outside hitter Clara Goncalves (Dennis, Mass.) registered 13 kills, while senior setter Charleyne Panner (Gilford, N.H.) checked in with 45 assists and three kills. Sophomore libero Cassidy Tyros (Chelmsford, Mass.) added 28 digs.
The two-day Wildcat Invitational continues on Saturday. The Bears take on Amherst College at 11:00 AM and Connecticut College at 1:00 PM.
