Volleyball Tops Suffolk, 3-0

BOSTON, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University Bears topped the Suffolk University women's volleyball team by a 3-0 score on Wednesday evening in the Regan Gymnasium.

Sophomore Clara Goncalves (Dennis, Mass.) led all players with 12 kills and a .417 hitting percentage to help the Bears improve to a 16-18 overall record on the year.  Goncalves recorded five kills in the third set of the evening to help the Bears record the sweep with a 25-17 win.  Bridgewater State took the earlier two sets by scores of 25-16 and 25-14.

Freshman Krista Iacobucci (Rocky Hill, Conn.) led Suffolk with seven kills on the evening. She also recorded eight digs. Senior Katie Matatall (Danville, N.H.) collected 11 digs to lead all players. Matatall also had a team-high two service aces.

Sophomore Charleyne Panner (Gilford, N.H.) collected 30 setting assists for the Bears in her return to the lineup after missing the previous 11 matches due to injury. BSU went 1-10 during Panner's absence. Classmate Hannah Maymon (Narragansett, R.I.) also chipped in with 10 kills and a pair of service aces, while junior Julie Hutchins (Bellingham, Mass.) tallied six kills and three assisted blocks.

Both teams will be back in action on Saturday afternoon. Bridgewater State will take on Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) foe  MCLA at one. Suffolk will also wrap up the regular season when they travel to Emmanuel College for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tri-match beginning at noon.
