Volleyball Splits Pair of Matches at Hall of Fame Invitational

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University volleyball team split a pair of matches during day two of the Hall of Fame Invitational held at Smith College.

The Bears (15-18) snapped a nine-match losing streak with a 3-0 (25-8, 25-7, 25-19) victory over host Smith before dropping a 3-1 (23-25, 25-13, 25-9, 25-18) decision to Trinity College.

Sophomore outside hitter Hannah Maymon (Narragansett, R.I.) finished with five kills and a career-high seven aces in the win over the Pioneers, and added 12 kills, four aces, ten digs and a solo blocks in the setback to the Bantams. Maymon was selected as the Bears' representative on the All-Tournament Team.

Sophomore outside hitter Clara Goncalves (Dennis, Mass.) tallied 14 kills in the two matches including eight kills in the win over Smith.  Senior setter Lisa Vega (Milford, Mass.) notched 53 assists with a career-high 31 of those coming against the Pioneers. 

Freshman middle hitter Christina Jaros (Plymouth, Mass.) registered ten kills and an impressive .600 hitting percentage against Smith, and finished with two kills, two aces, five digs and three solo blocks versus Trinity.

Bridgewater travels to Suffolk University on Wednesday night (7:00) for a non-conference match with the Rams. The Bears then wrap up regular season play next Saturday at one when they host Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) foe MCLA.
