Volleyball Sweeps Tri-Match

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University volleyball team swept a tri-match hosted by Norwich University on Saturday afternoon.  The Bears posted a 3-0 win (25-15, 25-14, 25-9) over Husson University in their opening match and completed the sweep with a 3-0 victory (25-14, 25-17, 25-18) over the host Cadets.

Bridgewater improves to 9-6 on the season with the two wins.

Sophomore setter Charleyne Panner (Gilford, N.H.) notched 28 assists, eight digs, two kills and four aces in the win over Husson.  Sophomore outside hitter Clara Goncalves (Dennis, Mass.) chipped in with ten kills, while junior middle hitter Julie Hutchins (Bellingham, Mass.) added seven kills, three aces and two blocks (one solo) and sophomore outside hitter Hannah Maymon (Narragansett, R.I.) added six kills, one ace and five digs.  The Bears finished with 11 aces in the match and a .286 hitting percentage.

In the victory over Norwich, Goncalves again notched a game-high ten kills and also added three assisted blocks.  Panner notched 27 assists, a pair of kills and six digs, while Maymon recorded nine kills and seven digs.  Hutchins rounded out the Bears' stat leaders with seven kills, one ace and five blocks (three solo).

Panner moved into eighth place among the Bears' all-time assist leaders as she now has 1,143 in her career.

In upcoming action, Bridgewater hosts Mount Ida College on Thursday evening at six.
