BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. -- Bridgewater State College sophomore outside hitter Julie Clerc has been named as the 2008 Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Year and heads the league's all-conference squad in a vote taken of the conference's seven coaches.

A native of Acushnet, Mass., Clerc notched 355 kills and 267 digs in leading the Bears to a share of the MASCAC regular season title with a 5-1 conference mark.

Bridgewater State freshman outside hitter Shelly DePina (New Bedford, Mass.) and Westfield State College freshman setter/outside hitter Alex Wahl (East Falmouth, Mass.) were named as co-MASCAC Rookies of the Year, as DePina recorded 203 kills and a team-high 85 total blocks for the Bears while Wahl added 244 kills for the Owls, who shared the MASCAC regular season crown with Bridgewater State.

Westfield State Head Coach Fred Glanville was selected by his peers as the 2008 MASCAC Coach of the Year after guiding the Owls to 12 victories and a share of the conference regular season championship with a 5-1 league slate.

Clerc was joined on the 2008 MASCAC first-team all-conference squad by Worcester State's Lauren Saylor, Framingham State's Ashley Trudeau, Westfield State's Wahl and Stephanie Bartkus and Bridgewater State teammates Alyssa Grimes and Natalie Cohen.
